IHC Global is an independent, non-profit global membership coalition of organizations, businesses and individuals  engaged in urban development worldwide.  IHC Global serves its members through advocacy and awareness;  policy and practice-focused research; and sharing of good practice.

With more than 3 billion people living in cities, IHC believes that what happens in cities globally will profoundly shape the world’s future.  The growing inequity in cities is a critical global concern with many ramifications.

IHC is committed to leveling the playing field in the urban world to ensure greater access to opportunity for all.  For example, poor housing, inadequate sanitation, unclean water, food insecurity, vulnerability to natural disasters and the effects of climate change, and insecure tenure all drive inequality.  Solving these problems will help not only to bring about greater equity but also to stimulate local economies and make cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Cities will prosper and markets will flourish when each city has a vision of its future which all citizens have had a role in shaping.   To achieve these ends,  IHC Global advances practical solutions, raises awareness about the issues, and advocates for equitable urban development worldwide.

Vision

IHC Global envisions a world in which cities around the globe are centers for the fulfillment of human potential, positive contributors to inclusive economic growth and key actors in ensuring a more sustainable and peaceful global future.

Mission

IHC Global’s mission is to advance practical and equitable urban development through demand-responsive and affordable housing delivery, functioning property markets, clean drinking water, effective sanitation, and other sustainable approaches that increase inclusiveness and enable better urban living conditions and more fulfilled and hopeful lives for everyone.

International Ethics and Standards

The IES Coalition gathered for its first meeting at the United Nations in New York, October 2014. The group agreed that in many parts of the world, there is a real and perceived problem with an inconsistent approach to ethics in real estate which must be addressed.

While numerous professional organisations have based their standards on common principles such as integrity, transparency and trustworthiness, there is no over-arching standard to which all land, property, construction, infrastructure and related professional organisations can subscribe.

This is the aim of a global Coalition of real estate and related professional organizations which has come together to assert the role of ethics in real estate to meet the needs of today’s global market.

What is the International Ethics Standards (IES)?

The global Coalition has now published the International Ethics Standards. It consists of high level principleswhich will be implemented by Coalition organisations providing greater consistency to users of professional services.

As the property profession changes and becomes increasingly international, so must our approach to developing and reinforcing professional ethics.

Real estate is integral to whole societies and economies, it shapes and influences the world we live in and represents a significant proportion of all global wealth. For this reason, professionals have a duty to uphold the highest standards throughout the world.
